Undertake a literature review on the use of chlorine, sterigene, methylated spirits, steam and boiling to deactivate Phytophthora inoculum in soil, on surfaces and within water. Identify the source of persistent P. agathidicida inoculum within naturally infected soil. The outputs of this research will inform future research approaches (Stage 2) in detemining efficacy of treatment tools.
Outcomes
Preliminary assessment has confirmed that P. agathidicida is present in both the fine root fragments and fine organic matter within infested kauri forest soils. These observations have critical significance for disinfection, as target treatments must penetrate these sources of inoculum to effectively mitigate risks of P. agathidicida spread. Further refinement is required.
